Been in the works of planning a moose hunt for a while now, and most likely trying for 2025. Talked to a butt load of pilots and outfits thus far. I have composition book full of information through chatting, but I'm curious of your experience. Any small outfits you would recommend? Feel free to pm as well if information is sensitive. I've chatted with most the ones that come up often, and as of now I'm leaning on Trail Ridge Air for a flight out of Anchorage and Mark Romo out of Dillingham. If we go out of Anchorage I have a dozen spots picked out on the west side of the Alaska range in around the east side of 19B. Out of Dillingham we would be looking on the east side of the Woodtickchick. I heard about Nick's air service and plan to give him a ring in a few days. I haven't looked much up north of Fairbanks along the south side of the brooks range, but have heard some good things. Talked with a few outfits that boat you in along the koyukuk and surrounding areas. I've for the most part ruled out Tok as I only see a few air services that can take you out and getting in with them seems near impossible. Seems to be some legal stuff going on with one outfit from what I've read, but rumors are like a disease sometimes. Planning on going with just one other guy for now to learn, and hoping to make this a every 3 year thing with the difficulty of elk tags. I should add I've been to Alaska a ton for fishing and fly out via float plane every year with Regal Air, so I do have a little understanding on how it works, but fully understand moose is a horse of different color compared to fishing.
I'm also super curious if anyone knows anything about the Gagaryah river too. Zero information online about it and that definitely intrigued me knowing people are not talking about it.
