Leasing permits
« on: December 03, 2023, 09:43:28 AM »
Hello -

I'm going over harvest reports and e scouting in prep for next year, been getting skunked by black tails the last couple of years.   As I'm looking at the reports and the available land in those units. I'm seeing a lot of private land in units where a lot of big game tags are being filled.  I know there's a lot of leasing opportunity in this state, but I'm wondering if we know what percentage of the tags being filled are on leased timber land permits for hunting or and private vs public?   I know a lot of people have feelings about permit leasing vs public land, I'm not personally complaining about it , just curious.

I don't think there's any way to know. With our reporting system.

So can I ask are you seeing any deer ? If not try a different spot , tried cameras ? Tried bait to see what’s in area ? Blacktail are a whole different deer from Miley’s and whitetail . Also when the weather is the  worst I have always found I did. My best hunting blacktail , good luck man

Rayonier closed off a bunch of timber in Kitsap and Mason to lease permit only. The land isn't any better, the deer don't know where the lease is, there are still land managers and brush pickers driving those roads but now you have to pay $.  I would stick to public land, maybe put up cameras.

Thank you for the advise, but I'm really just inquiring on whether or not we have a scope of the percentage of tags taken in leased land vs public.  I'm guessing the answer is no.
