Skagit headquarters launch will remain closed.
« on: December 05, 2023, 08:49:13 AM »
The Skagit Valley Headquarters unit remains closed! It was scheduled to open Nov 28th but will remain closed until further notice. The project to raise the dike and rebuild the boat launch is not finished. The WDFW had hoped to open the launch for the late season duck hunts, and still may but delays persist. Walk in hunting will be closed for the rest of the season while dike raising takes place. King tides and southerly winds have plagued this location overlooking the dike several times.
Our Mission

Preserve, protect, and promote waterfowl, waterfowl habitat, and waterfowl hunting; particularly in the state of Washington

To that end, we teach folks about waterfowl, waterfowl conservation, sportsmanship, shooting, hunter safety, and waterfowling. We also study, advise, recommend, and secure enactment of legislation in the interest of waterfowl, their habitat, and waterfowl hunting.

Well it’s going to be under water today, if not already.🤣

The peak flood stage has dropped 5 ft from estimate. Add the fact that we only have an 11 ft tide that peaks at noon then dropped down to a 3.8 ft. That will allow the lower river to dump it's back pressure.

That said the rail line is closed at Stanwood because everything south of the state route connecting Stanwood and cameo is underwater.

Was glad I saw the post about this. My son and I were planning on hunting this weekend there. I called them and they said that the boat launch will be out of service the rest of the season.

I'm a proud WWA member of the NW chapter and we have a buch of kick ass guys that good work for wateterfowler in the skagit area. I've personally received more benefits from this chapter and Org than I've paid in dues. Consider being a member.

I don't know if it's true, but I had heard that they project was behind schedule and could run into the 2024 season as well.  I hope that it's not true.

H20fowlr I'd read it was behind and running into 2024 but didn't catch the part where it would impact next year's season.  Hopefully it doesn't and area is available for hunting and access next year.
