Byrna pepperball/less lethal guns
« on: December 06, 2023, 01:05:18 AM »
Putting the this in “all other gear” cuz it’s not an actual gun in my books

These

https://byrna.com/

It’s a Christmas gift idea for my little sister and her husband. They are well a to do middle class married couple in their early 30s, making good money, and rather idealistic. They live in a Seattle suburb, but still what I’d call Seattle proper… at night the only thing that protects those two is a deadbolt door and a parking garage with a remote control.

Unfortunately she lives in one of those ideal world situations and her guy, well, he’s probably put on a dress to avoid a fight, they aren’t flashy people but he’s a musician and they work in corporate marketing…..

I worry about safety given where they live in the Seattle area, and I know for a fact they’d never touch an actual gun… contrary to me being a commercial fisherman, solo trolling southeast- where I don’t ever step off my boat without a bear gun, to their defense, they do have two cats, and one looks rather cranky……..

She might not appreciate it, but maybe her guy will… I suppose it’s some overwatering big bro thing, but I might just add one of these to Santa’s pile for Christmas

Any thoughts on these things? In my books it beats a sharp stick…….

Unfortunately she lives in one of those ideal world situations and frankly  the last thing I’d want is her and man to put her in a bad situation, in regards to personal security.  her guy, while awesome, I don’t see as a defender., they aren’t flashy people but he’s a musician and they work in corporate marketing….. they aren’t anti-gun, just the types where a gun doesn’t match up with them.

Probably to realistic looking for them to buy into it if they are as described.

I've run allot of L.T.L systems and you can't really beat a good paintball gun for dispersing pepper balls fast and accurate.

I'd go that route if your trying to provide them with some form home self defense.Or buy a couple big cans of bear spray. Same concept better dispersion and area coverage.

If I were armed and some goober in the house I was stealing from pointed anything that looked like a gun at me, I would either try to run or try to shoot. If it was a bright orange gun that shot a paintball I would definitely shoot. Capsaicin doesnt fully hit immediately, and adding a lookalike weapon that doesnt put a person down into a violent situation is asking to be killed instead of robbed. It would be better to gift them an alarm system or a large dog that could deter problems.

What country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon & pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants.

I'd vote big can of bear spray. To me, if they are not already inclined to use a weapon, they aren't going to be comfortable with this one and they aren't going to take the time to become proficient with it. So when the time comes that they actually need it, the probability of it being deployed effectively is pretty slim. Whereas broadcasting the hallway with bear spray is pretty easy. Get them a Louisville slugger to follow up the bear spray with.

I think we can come up with a lot of reasons not to use this.

But you have to consider the people (users). Guys on a hunting forum May not be this items market.
My wife is a sweetheart, over the years I have provided her with just about every platform you can think for her to use if something were to happen while I was away.

I even sent her and all the women in my family to a women’s handgun class. Even if faced with death I don’t believe my wife would pull the trigger on a firearm. She just isn’t that person.

So I have equipped her with several non lethal options. In her car she has bear spray in the door pockets. When she walks she carries a Kimber Pepper Blaster. I have motion alarms around our house.

So I see a place for this. I my self also have Bear Spray in my truck and a Kimber Pepper Blaster in my other pocket opposite my handgun.

There is a case for pulling out something that looks like a gun on a LE or armed person. You are going to get shot in my opinion.

OP you know your sister, so go for it you want.

My opinion is this item is too big, and your sister and her man may carry it awhile but soon it will be left at home. In the house I think it’s a good item.

Look a Kimber Pepper Blaster, smaller and easier to carry.

Well in part I am of the same mind.

I would hate for less lethal to replace the real thing in all instances.

Yea ok, I see the point, it was just an idea…. Good intentions on my end, but I definitely see many valid points and it makes sense
