As noted elsewhere, the ear tips of this mount were damaged in shipping, but here are the photos of it in its final spot in the house. I am surprised how large this guy is. 6 foot 8 inches tall on the pedestal. Very beefy animal.
It is a Hartman's mountain Zebra. They are found only in Southern Africa, predominately Namibia. I shot this guy in the mountains at about 7,000 feet.
Note the brown face and unique back skin pattern that make this a differnet animal than the more common Burchell's Zebra found in large herds in the plains. Hartman's zebra typically travel in smaller groups of 3-6.
Here is the description of what I asked my taxidermist to do with this mount:
• Floor Pedestal Mount hard right turn to show off neck folds
• Interested in creative pedestal ideas.
• Black stone top with white marbling if available.
• Want the backskin wrapped around the pedestal in one piece that shows off the pattern on the hind quarters
• Overall height needs to be equal to or less than 7 feet.
• If it looks natural, have ears tilted forward in an interested expression
I think what he delivered was exactly what was described. Taxidermist is Jerry Huffaker in Abilene Texas (
