Just awful. I used to duck hunt alone at times, usually on lakes, and never wore a life vest. It can happen so easily when winter waters are cold. Praying for a miracle outcome on this and peace for his family. Wear a pfd people, they make some that aren't bad to shoot with while they're on, or at minimum slip it on while traveling by boat or by foot for a water retrieval.
