bear/cougar tooth submitting
« on: December 15, 2023, 02:18:01 PM »
I noticed I have 1 bear tooth I sent in that wasn't received. My buddy also had the same issue with a cougar tooth. Yes, I am aware it takes time. It has been four years for me and well over a year for my buddy. WDFW claims not enough people are submitting teeth and their harvest reports, but I am curious as to how much is actually caused by WDFW losing them or the mail losing them. If the number is as high as I think it is, it could be a conversation worth having at the next commissioner meeting.

I think they would get more tooth submissions if getting the envelopes were easier. Not that it is difficult, but if you could fill out a form online to receive one that would be easier than calling during business hours when I am also working, or driving 30min out of my way.

The handful that I have sent in were received.

I totally agree. It's a pain trying to get envelopes. I tried to get a few when I went to the wdfw office but they only gave me two. They need to be available everywhere tags are sold.

Not sure how they lose a cougar tooth.
They pull it when you report and seal the hide.
If it gets lost, that would be there fault.

Bear tooth gets sent through mail.
Cougar they pull it in person.

At least that's how it happened for me.
I skinned the cat except head ,put it in an old milk crate.
Took it down for reporting.

I forgot about that. That's true. It still shows a tooth not submitted for my buddy though

Back in 2005 when I got my bear a warden pulled the tooth and took it.  I never received any info and I tried looking it up but nothing comes up so I don't know if they received it or not.

Just a little update. I submitted a bear tooth for a bear I took this last August. It is not showing one submitted. So that is two bear for me and one cougar for my buddy that has not been received by WDFW. Yet they have the nerve to say hunters aren't submitting enough teeth. That is 2 out of 8 that they claim aren't submitted. 25% seems like a pretty pathetic number to me.
