2024 Buck Hunts
« on: December 18, 2023, 01:30:32 PM »
I am moving out of the state in the near future. I have 18 points in the buck deer category and I am going to start branching out and applying for different hunts than I have been. Has anyone had a really fun “buck” hunt that they would be willing to let me know about? Maybe theres one im over looking? Just PM me as I dont want anything betting blown up from my post. Fun doesnt necessarily mean a hunt you saw huge deer on…opportunity is by far the most fun aspect of hunting for me. Thanks in advance.

Even with 18 points, its still a draw. Yes, you will have a little "better" odds in some units but none are a slam dunk so if it were me and I was leaving soon, I would apply for the units I wanted to hunt regardless of odds. Send it

Understood. What if none of them really sound that great and you just want to use your points before you move? Even the one I was holding out for isnt that good. I just want to use up my points.

Dont I know it. If you add up my points across the west its way more than I care to admit. Thanks for the reminder.

With the amount of applicants and the amount of points they each have, you are still less than 5% chance odds of drawing most tags. Blue Mt Foothills rifle whitetail tag would probably be a good choice due to the large number of tags offered for that hunt in the Buck category.  I drew it this year with 13 points.   Ritzville would be a hard tag to draw with the low amount of tags and the high number of applicants. Good luck!!!

People with 18 points aren’t putting in for “easy” tags. The wife and I can’t make it 5 years without drawing buck or quality tags. Easy tags are like 40 tags for 300 applicants with average points being around 5.

Define fun? There’s a late muzzy buck tag I have been putting in for when I draw multi season that I would like to have along the Columbia River. To me special draws are just more time to hunt. I enjoy hunting.

I enjoy hunting too, and in my experience hunting, not all hunts are created equal. I don’t like dealing with private property very much which a lot of these buck hunts Do. I guess that would be one thing that I would try to steer away from. Mainly just seeing if there’s any that people have been on that they really saw thought sucked. I have a really good OTC spot that I go to so if it all possible, I would like to use these points on something worthwhile. Hope that answers your question. I really just want to use these points up before I move.

Again, I appreciate all the PMs from everyone. It’s been really enlightening and is already helping me narrow it down.
