Early Christmas gift from the RMEF, Kimber Stainless II in 10mm
« on: December 19, 2023, 08:33:33 AM »
I won this Kimber Stainless II 1911 in 10 mm during their raffle in November.  Bought the ticket at Sportsman's Warehouse in Everett,  This is my very first 10mm, though I've had Colt and Springfield 1911's in 45, along with my 9mm's and 40 cals.  When I researched about this gun, I've read, whether true or not, that you need to fire 500 rounds to break it in.  Otherwise, there will be a lot of FTE's.  Is this true?  Also, two friends of mine recommended the Buffalo Bore or Underwood as their PD rounds.  Bottom line is, I just got lucky and got drawn for this prize.  What say you?

That's a beautiful piece. Congratulations.

I have a Stainless II in .45 and it was a little sticky for about the first 50 rounds, after that, no issues. Not sure on the 10mm.

Every gun is different. I have a colt delta elite in 10mm. Updating the spring, shooting hotter loads, and not limp wristing along with breaking the gun in all improved the performance. I like the minuteman ammo 10mm hollowpoints. Killed a bear or two with those. Minute man ammo is a small business here in wa that makes awesome ammo.

If a gun needs 500 rounds shot through it to run reliably, it wasn’t made correctly.

What happens during those 500 rounds? Lots of FTEs? I know what happens, I’m not asking a serious question. I also know lowest cost factory ammo is going to be about $180, and shooting reloads will void the warranty.

Buffalo Bore makes good ammo. I shot a deer in the neck with their 10mm Dangerous Rounds and I would not recommend using that ammo on the streetz unless you want to blow the lung right of the body and the person behind them. Their low flash 10MM is much better suited for personal defense.

I would say, buy a couple boxes of ammo and go run it.  If you find yourself having failures.....figure out why and get it fixed.  All 1911's get better with rounds down range in my opinion, but they should be reliable out of the gate.  Make sure you give it a good cleaning and run it hard.....I love my kimber and it runs flawlessly.

Will give you $25 for it if you throw in the case.

 :yeah:

I will say after only 500 rounds most handguns are barely broken in.

Kimber makes great handguns. If I had one round of my Kimber FTE it would be sent back to Kimber to diagnose. They have great customer service and warranty!

I have the Kimber 1911 in the RMEF Camp Guard 10MM.
Shoots like a dream.
No problems with feeding, I've shot about 200 rounds.
Great pistol.

Yep, pretty much a throw away gun. That said. I will double his offer and you can keep the case!  :dunno: :chuckle:

Nice!

I also have a delta elite like Rugergunsite has. Great guns. Wilson combat was my first stop for upgrades. I put a 460 Rowland/"heavy" 10mm 24lb flat spring in mine, a steel guide rod with shock buffers in between the spring and guide rod. Helps keep frame battering down and helped along with the "heavy" loads.

I love my 10 mm and will never part with it
