Time to upgrade?
« on: December 29, 2023, 03:05:04 PM »
Currently shooting a Realm X that a couple things bug me enough to consider a new bow.  The cam wheel axles with the string perches that stick out really grab the brush, and it’s heavier than I’d like to.

Thinking about Matthews lift, what else should I consider?

I’m not one of those guys who upgrade just because cool new! I’d had my last bow 15 years or more, this Realm X bugs me

A perfect bow I’d keep a long time

My next new bow will be a Prime. I would check those out when you start going down the rabbit hole of choosing a bow.

Go Traditional. Free yourself.
And you can use it for a creek fishing rod if you get bored.

The lift is a great shooter and excellent options for hunting setup.

I shoot the Mathews v3x 29 from a few years ago, it's an amazing bow to shoot you can't go wrong with a Mathews. Would defiantly recommend the new Mathews Lift!!!

I bought a Mathews Phase 4 (33"ATA) last year after shooting a Switchback (OG) for 20 years. To say I was impressed is an understatement. These new bows are in a completely different world.

I was still shooting my 2008 Mathews Drenalin up until this year. Upgraded to a Mach 34 and once it was properly tuned and set up my 50 yard groups became my 80 yard groups. Hopefully I can shoot it for a long time though cause it was not easy on the wallet  :chuckle:

PSE Mach 30/34 or PSE Evolve DS 31/33. Smooth draw, easy to tune, great feeling and shooting bow.

I’m in the market for a new bow as well, been shooting my PSE x-force since 2008. In the last few weeks I’ve shot the Mathews lift33, hoyt alpha x33, the flagship elite, PSE  mach34, PSE omen , flagship Prime, and Athens. The Mathews and Hoyt are my favorites so far followed by the Omen and Elite. To be fair the prime was set a few inches short so didn’t get a good feel for it. I want to shoot the Mathews and Hoyt again and run them through the chrono as I got that with the rest of them and speed is important to me. Also will shoot some bowtech. Lots of sweet bows these days

I think any of the new modern bows are gonna fit the ticket. I went from a Bear Cruzer X to a used mathews v3 27 and it was insane the difference. After shooting the v3 27 for a year i wanted a little bit longer axle to axle. So i sold the v3 27 what i paid for it and bought a v3 31 for the same price. I don't think i will ever buy a new bow because there's thousands of people that upgrade every year and sell it to me for a steep discount.

I got a used Hoyt defiant pro 34 after years of an older 2008?  Hoyt. My old one was lights out accurate, took a little tuning to get the newIsh one close to as accurate, but now am feeling great about it and putting decently good groups at 90 with a BG slider sight. I’m sure any newish bow will do the job, just have to find one that feels good and you can shoot...

I have a friend, that knows someone, who shot em all.
They own a bow shop, on both coasts, near 2 separate oceans. Many of their extended family have moved away. While they were nice folks, non of them bow hunted. All of them had no desire to get serious.
But if they did they would shoot the bow the shop owners shoot.

Don’t just consider the big box brands. Most of them are youngsters in the compound bow arena. Here ya go, been killing big game with these since the late 70s. https://dartonarchery.com/
