New gear
« on: December 30, 2023, 10:55:12 PM »
I've been using wfs predator camo rain gear the last couple years I've come to the conclusion this year that it's worn out an I'm tired of being wet. I put a lot of miles in during hunting season in thick brush I need some solid rain gear that is still quite while walking. The wfs stuff was good at first but had it's flaws what have you guys used to stay dry while trying to sneak around in the brush

Good rain gear and quiet don't go together well, but Kuiu Yukon is one of the most used and brought up. Run it myself and it's been bomb proof.

 :yeah:

I would go as far as to say, they don't go together at all. My yukon stuff is good for lots of movement hiking etc. Sitka Thunderhead is more quiet, not as waterproof.  If all day hunting lots of rain and soaked brush I have had good luck with grundens and real wool layers.

Tried the Badlands Omega set this year for riffle elk season.    Stayed dry no matter how hard it rained but definitely not as quite as fleece or straight wool outer layers.  Good news is when it's raining that hard being super quite is not usually an issue.   My only complaint is it runs a little warm for hard hikes.

No need to worry about quiet when the rain itself isn’t quiet

Helly Hansen Impertech for a bomb proof and affordable solution.

I reeeeally like my Sitka Dewpoint.  I hunted SE AK with it and stayed dry so that certainly says something

Back n the day elk hunting the rainforest
It was Helly tops and bottoms and a sou’wester
And a cut off sleeve cheap red plaid flannel over the top of that
Stayed pretty darn dry

Those old scratchy wool L&L Bean Maine guide series pants have always been my favorite. Many all day sits directly in the rain and for some reason you dont get cold. Theyre like magic and I dont know why more hunters arent using them other than the pageantry of the camouflage patterns.
