2024 sheds…..let’s see em’

People often ask if I find any sheds from the bucks I photograph.   Not often, but sometimes.   I was photographing another buck when I looked down and here were the sheds from this buck, about 20 feet from where he was bedded in this photo.  Technically a 2023 shed, but I wanted to get the ball rolling.   I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s finds.   Good luck this year!

Beautiful picture and great buck! One winter, I was watching a giant 3 point for about a month and a half from a far ridge . I finally spotted him with no headgear and went over there about 3 weeks later and looked for them but to no avail. I made many trips in there to find them but no luck. The next year, I climbed in on the ridge I was watching him from and viola, there are his sheds 20 yards away from where I was watching him from.

Should mule deer be dropping right now? I saw a 3x3 with antlers still last week. Living in Montana now I’m wondering when to start hitting it.

Should mule deer be dropping right now? I saw a 3x3 with antlers still last week. Living in Montana now I’m wondering when to start hitting it.


My experience you get a few hitting the ground right now but I don’t tend to find numbers until 3rd to 4th week of January on into the end of February. With how mild our winter is I’m not sure how good my season will be. The animals are still scattered all over the mountains here. Nothing in them to push them to the lower elevations.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Taken pretty much at midnight on NYE. I think this means it's starting in my area? He had two pokers last time I saw him.

Young forky by my place was down to 1 last week. Some drop early, some hold on till March 25th I've learned... crazy late for a whitetail. He had both sides on March 25th and they were white and faded looking even.

Ya some deer will shed as early as November. But it’s not that common. Most shed in late febuary. My earliest fresh shed was about Jan 21.

I saw a 2 point packing April 17th once. Shed falling is a bell curve. With some wild extremes.
