When spending New Years in Hawaii ...
« on: January 12, 2024, 11:54:00 AM »
Go hunting!

The sow was shot a friends property next to a macadamia farm! FAT and TASTY!

The Sunset shot was on Mauna Kea at about 8000 feet. Mauna Kea is where the observatory is and sometime snows up there!

Happy New Year!

Don't be! You can do it too! With a little homework, I found a ton of public land to hunt, filled with goats and pigs! Hope you can make it out there some time!

That's pretty cool, or warm actually :chuckle:

Been a bunch of times for work, never have hunted or fished there.

Very cool and grear photos.   I've been researching the public land areas quite a bit.   Think it would make for a fun trip.   Saw a ton of goats in Maui the last time I was there but just inside private property.

Theres goats all over the place. We went over the Saddle road on Christmas and counted over 100. The old sugar cane fields were over run with pigs last time I took a ATV ride thru them.

The further one goes into the wilderness, the greater the attraction of its lonely freedom.

How cool. Wife and daughter are vacationing in Kauai now, and having a blast. It would be pretty fun to go someday.

Saddle road is where (PTA), Puhakuloa Training Area, there's definitely pigs, goats, turkeys there.  You can hunt there , just need to register with the Army.

You can also hunt Axis deer on Maui and Lanai.

That's good to know.  There were a ton of sheep up there the last time I went across too.

For anyone is interested in hunting Hawaii, these links helped me out.

The over all Game units on all tghe islands. Also you'll need to get a hunter education certificate from Hawaii OR get a letter of exemption which I did.
https://dlnr.hawaii.gov/recreation/hunting/

Their written Game regs, you thought ours was bad!
https://dlnr.hawaii.gov/dofaw/files/2013/09/HAR-123-Game-Mammals.pdf

Game departments for the different island. They were helpful to find legal access. Alot of the public lands are land locked but there are ways of accessing. You just need to know where you'd like explore.

This guys articles were a fun read.

Hope this helps people if you decide to go.

Aloha!
