Hi All, I recently purchased a Weatherby Vanguard Meateater and would really like to hear from others and see pics of your scope/ring/base combo choices. I am halfway through my new “waiting period”… So I am shopping for a scope and mounting hardware. Looking for opinions and advice from others who have a vanguard or meateater and what they went with and why. PLEASE add pics if you have them! I am Looking to spend no more than $500 on a scope.

Short action or Long Action?  What cartridge? What is the primary purpose of the rifle (general purpose, busting brush, long range, etc). Any base made for Weatherby Vanguard or Howa 1500 in the corresponding action length will fit your rifle.  I have and do own many Vanguards and Howas and have been using Leupold Backcountry base rails and TSR rings.  But I have been wanting to give the Leupold Backcountry ring/base mounts a try.  You will want to pick a scope first and from there you can determine what height of rings/bases you will need.

Rifle is chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. Still shopping for scopes…. Really like the Tally 1 piece base ring combo for my rifle. Torn in scope though, really like Leupold but also like an adjustable objective lens and they currently do not produce one in my price range. Vortex does but the scopes are notably heavier. Not really familiar with Burris, Nikon or any other scopes out there. Main purpose is open land hunting and long range up to 500yds or so. My biggest concern with the Leupold is the parallax out past 250 yards. The VX3 with the Creedmoor reticle in 4-12x40 is where I am leaning currently unless I can find better for the money. (Under $500)

I like the DNZ reaper. The one piece mount is good and sturdy.

Vortex Diamondback tactical has parallax adjustment for under $500 and has been put through the rigors of many a youtube review. Very good scope. Backfire tv did a particularly tough set of tests on scopes in that price range and it faired at the top among a couple others. If you specifically want the objective bell to be adjustable youre mostly only going to see lower quality scopes. Side parallax adjustment starts to be seen around the $200+ mark.

Go with a leupold and don’t look back. You will not regret it. Had problems with the last 2 vortex scopes I have had. Would not recommend them to anyone anymore.

@Duckhammer that's correct. Adjustable objective and side parallax adjustment are virtually identical, but most of the higher end scopes will have the side parallax because you can operate it while in the shooting position, whereas the adjustable bell you have to get above the rifle and out of the shooting position. They're both good but most of the fancy scopes will be side parallax  so if you want the AO specifically then you're gonna be limited to maybe 1/4 of the scopes.

I bought the Leupold VX 3-9x50 with the CDS dial yesterday. Tried ALOT of scopes and the Leupold was the best optic to look through for my eyes without comparison. I am happy with my purchase and can’t wait to get out there shooting with it! Thanks everyone

Go with a leupold and don’t look back. You will not regret it. Had problems with the last 2 vortex scopes I have had. Would not recommend them to anyone anymore.

I'd go SWFA over Leupold or Vortex. The SWFA SS 3-15x42 is a bit over your price range but is more likely to maintain zero than the other two brands.

There are a bunch of reasons to not go with a Vortex scope but you’re talking weight and there’s 4 ounces difference between similar magnification leupold and vortex scopes. I’d go Leupold over Vortex either way, but not for weight.

I actually took it back and got a 4-12x40 (30mm tube)  Leupold VX. These old eyes needed more zoom! Plus the side focus I think I will be happy with this scope if the cds works as it’s supposed to!
