I put 7PRC, but if your building a gun,  build a 7mm Rem with a 1/8" twist barrel.  There you would basically have the 7PRC, and would have more brass and factory ammo availability.   You'd be able to stabilize 195 grain bullets along with your 168 grain bergers.  Energy on target would be so close on all options out to 700 that your splitting hairs.

Since I have a 7mm Rem MAG would I really gain any performance from the 7prc?  Which would be a better ballistic wise between the 7prc and 300wsm?

Since they have basically the same case capacity chambered with the same freebore and same twist to shoot the same bullet/s they're virtually ballistic twins.  It's shooting factory ammo and off the shelf factory made rifles that the 7 PRC has the advantage with regard to LR shooting/hunting.  In my opinion the 7 PRC has a better case design and I think the PRC definitely has the advantage with regard to quality brass.

Ballistically, since the WSM, 7 Rem mag and 7 PRC all have nearly the same case capacity how they compare to one another will come down to bullet choice.  With a bullet like the 180 ELD-M in either of those 7's where you can launch them 3100fps I'm not sure the 300 WSM can compare.

I'm a fan of all three of those cartridges and I don't think any of them would be a bad choice as they are all very capable.  Which one I chose to build would largely depend on what I already had and what I planned to do with it.

If you reload and you're looking for something with great ballistics and less recoil I'd throw a fast twist 25 cal in the mix.  Something like a 25-6.5PRC, 25 SAUM, 25 WSM, or even 25-7PRC and shoot the 133/135 Berger or 134 ELD-M.  Run the numbers through a ballistic program on a 134 ELD-M or 135 Berger leaving at 3200fps and you'll quickly see what I'm talking about.

I'm also rebarreling a 7rem mag and I was pretty set on shooting the 180 eldm's. Since it's a tikka action I was leaning heavily towards a 7prc. I'll also be going with a shorter barrel for a can, but after talking with several guys who shoot a lot more than I do it sounds like more and more of them are opting for the smaller chamberings since they've switched to hunting suppressed and are really happy with the performance including on elk at distance. Now I'm considering something like you mentioned above, a 25prc has me really intrigued. Just not so sure about barrel life

I can tell ya without a doubt. 7rem mag can be loaded alot hotter than reload data says.
Of course work your way up, definitely room to play a little.
I've shot a lot of rounds down mine.
300 win mag
7 mag
Both have the case capacity to load up to a decent MV.

Now I'm considering something like you mentioned above, a 25prc has me really intrigued. Just not so sure about barrel life

Barrel life on a 25-6.5 PRC should pretty easily be in 800-1000 rnds range maybe more and in a hunting rifle that's really long time.  A lot of if has to do with how you shoot it.  Get anything hot and keep banging away at it and you can roach out a throat in just about anything in no time at all but using a little common sense and you can extend the life substantially.  I have a 25 SAUM build going and will be shooting the 134 ELD-M's.  Barrel life will probably be a little shorter on a 25 SAUM then the 25-6.5 PRC.

If you're looking for something to go a lot longer, with regard to barrel life, a 25 Creedmoor shooting the 133/134/135's would be the easy button but "easy" is overrated and no fun.  ;)

Agree but little bullets start to become much less interesting at sub 3k, not to mention sub 2900 in a shorter setup. In all reality the 134 eldm and 140 eldm are so close to eachother it'd probably be wise to just go 6.5, but that just sounds horribly boring and then I'd be right back at 147's and 156's :chuckle: :chuckle:

Anyways, back to OP's questions. Sorry for the threadjack

I voted for the 7PRC, but I would say 6.5 PRC for shooting and hunting deer and 7PRC if elk or larger will be involved.

I just put together a 6.5 PRC, but haven't been out to shoot it yet.  That being said, I kind of wish I would have held out for a 7PRC for elk hunting.

I need a deer, elk and bear rifle.  I do mostly archery and muzzy, but putting together one rifle for everything is what makes most sense.  Also not looking for a boat anchor.  Hoping to get another year out of my 7mag before I get it rebarrelled.

Sorry if I missed it but what brand rifle do you currently have?

Go 7PRC or 300PRC. You won’t be disappointed. I will rebarrel my 7rem to one of those.

I am searching for custom actions as we speak.  Need a long action magnum, repeater.  Borden, Lone Peak, Defiance??  Anything else I should look at?

I’ve been dreaming of a lightweight build going lone peak fuzion/defiance Anti, 22 inch carbon barrel (bought a suppressor) and probably going 300 PRC.

Give Allterra a look.  I put together a 7PRC with their C2 action and a CarbonSix prefit and am extremely happy.  Terminus actions are also top notch.
