Hard core hunters
« on: January 18, 2024, 03:29:23 PM »
When we got to the pond it was still froze almost to the blind. My ice eater had a 50 ft hole in front of the blind but it was about 100 yds of solid ice to the hole. 10blb hammers and an hour of work and we were able to make it to the hole. Once we got there birds were committing  suicide. 10-20 yd shots. Rain and 33 degrees all morning but birds were working well in the decoys .  3 limits of mallards for the morning.

Hell yeah! Nothing quite like a day when the birds do exactly what you want them to

Heck yeah. Hard work pays off. And your spot has always been a good producing spot when the time is right. Good flyway. Keep it up. I am out for the remainder of the season unfortunetely.

Easier to bust out the chain saw.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

Yep, it'll cut a nice hole in the ice, then you can slide the sheets you cut under the ice section you're leaving.  Works great.

Chainsaw does work well. Last night  around 4 there was over 150 mallards in a 50 ft hole right in front of the blind. We were counting on walkin the 100 yds on the ice to the blind. Water is only calf deep. The ice was thick enough to hold me but not 1 of my buddies so we decided to bust it. Took about 30 minutes. Cold drizzly morning.
