Sierra (TGK), Tipped Game Kings
« on: January 19, 2024, 09:42:37 AM »
Has anyone used this bullet type, Sierra (TGK), Tipped Game Kings, on an elk or deer?

How did it work?

I have some on the way and I plan on using them for this years elk hunt.

They shoot pretty good through my .270. With Accubonds hard to find, I bought a few boxes of these bullets to reload. Maybe next year I'll get to send one on a big game animal.
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

I have heard good things about them but have never personally tried them. I love the Nosler Partitions.

There was a member on here a couple years ago that gave a pretty good review.  Said they shoot great, but he had core separation from the jacket and didn't perform well.

A quick google search produced many results.  Here is one that was similar to what I read on here.....I chose to find another bullet.

I have not shot the new tipped gamekings but have shot the spitzers with great success on accuracy and game performance. Animals don't go far. Great terminal damage and blood trails. We have shot a number of deer, bears and even a nice bull elk. Penetration wasn't an issue. Last bear with the .270 dropped in its tracks on a frontal shot. And the last elk dropped in its tracks with 300wsm with a complete pass through breaking both shoulders.

I can only attest to their accuracy, very good.  I can also say the "tipped MATCH Kings" are very accurate as well, and very deadly as a heart/lung bullet for deer and coyotes (no surprise there).

I was thinking the Sierra TGK’s or the Barns solids.

I went with the TGK’s due the powder for the Barn’s.  Wanted to use IMR4064.

They get the job done. Couple seasons ago my wife killed a whitetail buck over 400 yards with the 90gr TGK from her .243 and my dad killed his elk this past season at 600 yards with the 165gr TGK from his 300 WSM.

the standard gamekings perform well at milder velocities - have taken several deer with them in .308 winchester factory loaded federal ammunition. Adding high velocities and contact with big bones has the potential for low penetration. I have always been impressed by sierra bullets for accuracy.
