Pain pills for dogs

My hunting dog is 10.5 years old lab. Still hunts hard and chases big geese and ducks all day but then after the hunt he’s been getting really sore and I wanna help him out with some pain pills after the big hunts. I called a vet and they said 70$ for visit then do bloodwork for $250. Then pills look like 1.50$ a pill. Is that what I should expect to pay for just some basic pain killers for my dog. I’ve read human pain pills are bad for dogs organs. Just wondering if anyone has any other info before I spend 500$ for some ibuprofen for some sore legs.

Look for Carprofen. It's not that expensive. Looks like Chewy has it for down around .50-.70 a pill. Other meds like aspirin and acetaminophen can be toxic after long periods of taking it.

Duralactin can be affective for general relief.  It is milk based and easy on the dog.  This what I would start with if not chasing something specific.

Be carefull with Rymadyl.  It can be pretty hard on the stomach.

This. I have a prescription from my vet that I keep and give my 11 year old hunting dog if she is stoved up. Half tablet after the hunt and she is good to go

Fair winds cbd purchased at the weed store. I've tried many and used it for my old chessie. Best stuff better than dog anti-inflammatory meds

My 9yo pointer will become stiff on the ride home. His diet is heavy with homemade pumpkin puree. I put away about 200lbs every fall. An aspirin and warm shower and he is ready the next day, all season. Used this routine for my prior wirehair and got 15 solid seasons out of him.

I am learning.  My almoat 9 year old lab has some.hurting hips.  Cosiquin, now on a pet nsaid and doc has him on adequan.  8 shot series.  One thing doc told me at the point of arthitis is just making things comfortable.  So adding things to find a good even keel is what happens.  The CDB thing I kind of like that.  I use some of the calming stuff on him during fireworks

My vet prescribed Meloxicam for my old dog. She did bloodwork before and again after thirty days to make sure he was tolerating it. It made a huge improvement in his comfort level and what he is able to do.
