didnt see a spring bear
« on: June 13, 2009, 08:29:45 AM »
but i sure was close to one this morning. hiked back in to "my" area this morning at about 5am and couldn't see squat the fog was so thick. so i just sat down on my usual perch (in full camo) and waited to see if the fog would lift. about 15 min of listening to the morning birds (i love the woods) i hear a log (or stump) being ripped apart just down the hill from  me in the creek bed but i still cant see crap. i stand up and locate the sound, he was really going to town. then i hear crunching behind me and two bulls come walking about twenty feet from me and proceed to browse ( why i scout in full camo) they hung around for about 15 min looking over toward the area the bear was in but not looking to worried. i had the wind and i sat and listened to that bear work the hill for about 1 hour at one time i think he got within 35 yards or so and maybe picked me up cuz he woofed and moved back down the hill but didnt leave. if not for the fog i think i would have some pretty good pics i was ready. the elk were also talking to each other a little through the fog, it was a great morning.

Sounds like it.  SOMETIMES, the fog can be the best hunting.  Sometimes, not.

Did you apply for one? The area you hunt was one of my fave areas back in the day. Tons of deer and elk. Saw lots of cougars in there also.

I was up 3 times during the spring hunt this year and saw two bears total. Neither was super big but one was pretty close to 6'.

i applied but didnt draw  :bash: im usually up the a couple times a week, haven't "seen" a bear yet this year but ive not been far behind a few. theres a coug up in that area also ive seen his tracks and found more than a few deer bones some were pretty fresh, theres also a large pack of yotes up there that im sure are capable of taking a deer, one of there tracks i see regularly is huge

That is a hard area to hunt bears in. I saw cat tracks in there when there was a little snow this year also. My buddy missed one sitting in a snag at 128 yards.  :bash: Oh well, saves more for me. lol

Don't mean to rub it in, but I saw a bear today on the coast.
