yes it's bait.
:twocents: you put it there to attract the animals....it's bait.

Are scents considered bait then?

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

Baits or scents are against the law for bears.

i put apples and deer chow in front of my trail cam with full intentions of getting some good deer and elk pics. I got a few deer pics, but now i have a pile of bears coming in. i set my camera up in an area where there aren't that many bears and in the middle of a clearcut. I do plan on bear hunting bears this year, but not where my camera is set up. i hunt bears in the high country and usually see quite a few every year. I also plan on pulling my camera and bait out in a few weeks, but it is kinda cool to get some trl cam pics, since it's the first time i have put it out.  :twocents:

I was told that once you have a bear come into a bait for coyotes or deer you must pull bait or you'll be concidered baiting bears, i knew a guy who got busted for this a few years back . you would need lawyer to figure out some of the game laws on this.Coach

Unfortunately it's at the discretion of the officer as to whether the area is baited or not.  He will write you up and it's a mandatory court appearance.  You pretty much need a lawyer to get off and that will cost your about $2k at the min.  I know a guy that went through this.  It was thrown out, but he still had to pay the legal fees.

so you have to wait for the deer opener to incidentally shoot a bruin while deer hunting ... or never tell where you did it...
not stirring the pot or promoting anything but alot of these rules are made for the convenience of the game officers just like what has been said before it's up to the officials to decide if you where hunting deer and got a bear by accident or you where bending the rules. kinda leaves it to the individual to take it upon themselves to take the higher road and do the right thing by pulling out of a situation like that.
but not everyone has a trail camera to have the foresight as to what is actually eating all those yummy goodies... :dunno:

Hey lets just stop talking about it. Do what you think is right. No need to draw attention to the subject.  In my opinion you shouldnt hunt over bait, you should hunt the trails that lead to it.

I know  :tung: I will sit right on top of my bait for my deer that way I can see all the deer trails all the way around me then I can DEFEND  my stuff from any bears and keep them from eating any and become hooked.
hey that way the game wardern just might believe ya because no sane person would want to be sitting in a pile of bait that bears might want to eat right?  Nope only this Idiot
and P.S. I ain't scared but don't tell johnny law...
