A buddy and I went to the far north of Alaska for Caribou year before last in Mid August. We were told to have enough bug spray that we could bathe in the stuff. He bought one brand, I bought another. We had pest strips, Citronella candles, bug bombs, you name it. We were in the field for 11 days, we dealt with mosquitoes for 2 to 3 hours of the trip. One afternoon, while packing Caribou across the Tundra, the rain and the snow cleared long enough for the mosquitoes to come out in force, made life absolutely miserable for a short period of time. The snow blew back in and whoosh, they were gone.

I did a caribou trip years ago and we went from wanting to shot ourselves from the mosquito misery one day to almost nothing the next.... one really hard nights freeze made all the difference

My family and I are doing that same trip next year.  We have friends in Mayer and Brainerd that go often.  I'm already geeking out on the trip.  Cant wait to follow along on your adventure.  Plus, if your worried about mosquitos buy premetherine.....it flat out works.

Have.  Your going to close to where I grew up.  You will get squitters for sure.  Unofficial state bird.  It is also archery deer season.  Just a thought.  Non resident licenses aren't that bad

Been told by a few people that bugs are pretty much gone by mid September. First frost was 9/13 last year at the place we’re renting canoes from.

I fished it a couple days June of 2022 and we caught a lot of fish. My buddies nephew is a guide out there and we drew a motorized boat permit. I'm guessing your starting at Moose lake LaTourells resort. One thing I noticed all the locals fish live bait. Worms, minnows & leaches - I think I caught 10x using plastic swim baits with jig heads. white or silver with 1/4 oz head.  Good luck and have fun.

Thanks for the info!

Our entry point permit is for Seagull Lake.
