I drew the Desert A tag in 2004 and hunted the full season i missed a 190 class typical on the first evening of the hunt and the next closest buck i saw was maybe a 160 class, ended up taking a 24" 4X2 on the last day, there are big bucks in the desert but they arent behind every sagebrush like everyone seems to make it sound, they hang out in the cattails and the russian olives where you cant see em and if you go in there youll here em comin out, until the rut(rifle season) then they start comin out and roaming, one of your most valuable summer scouting tools out there could be a spotlight as its hot and those deer dont leave their cover much, and the desert is mostly public

Thanks for the posts!
We had seven points when we drew. I'm not asking for anyones honey hole or secret spot, just a foot in the right direction. I seen some talk about peoples first post asking for desert info. You might recognize me from these pictures, past couple years. I've made some posts on here. Any info could be pm'ed to me if you'd like. Any experiences help! I do know this is a lucky tag to pull. My cousin was the other one who drew with me(wildwood), we have been hunting together since we were little kids with ours dads. Always have hunted the westside for elk and deer. We got into bear hunting a few years ago. Last year was our first experience hunting muleys over in winthrop, didn't have much luck but came back and my brother and cousin got 2 three points the next day.

nice photo album.  That first bear looks like he took a shot to the head.
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Ya pathfinder he did get one to the head. That bear is from last sept. An hour after first light i was glassing a steep clear cut infront of me and my cousin was down the road a bit further. I heard a branch break behind me and turned around and saw this boar coming out of the timber about 75 yards away. When I turned he saw me, he paused then started quartering away from me back into the timber. I was able to get a shot off and nailed him... got both lungs. He ran about ten feet to where my cousin hit him in the head. It probably a good thing he did cause they are tough animals and sometimes hard to find in the thick stuff, but i doubt he would have went much further.
