duck hunting drawings spots
« on: February 23, 2024, 01:43:54 PM »
Hello, I noticed 3 different duck hunt drawings spots in washington state Mcnary, Ridgefield, and Shillapoo. How do I sign up for the drawings? when do I do it? where is the website? How many people can you bring with you hunting if you get these spots?

Also is hunting these spots any good? Would you hunt these spots if it costs you 300 dollars to travel and get a hotel room?

We've done the drive from Seattle to McNary a few times with some pretty good draws and not had great success.  Even the ability to look at last years harvest data at each blind isn't super helpful.  The biggest factor is that our fall weather is just really hard to predict.  I would rather spend a bit more and hunt with Shelby Ross at Potholes with the duck taxi.  We typically hunt ducks for a day and then a guided goose hunt.   We've always had great hunts with him.

Since you are willing to travel and drop coin, do a guided hunt or explore. Refuge hunts are really lame unless you hit the few perfect days. Stay mobile and search for the birds. Quail hunting is a great way to search.

Also keep an eye on breeding survey results which has not been nice at all for the east side.  Up until 10 years ago got some good picks from summer draw but unfortunately a lot more enter and wouldn’t even get drawn 3 times at Burbank Mcnary Did well on lotto draw after the hunters with picks got their blinds because the non hunting side would get so full with ducks causing them to wander over to the hunt side but sadly those types of numbers are gone and today so poor probably for years to come.

Shillapoo is a walk in hunting spot.  Not a draw and can be a crap show with all the hunters in the area.  You might as well put in for Umatilla and Sauvies Island in Oregon as well and see if you get drawn and buy a day out of state license.  Or as mentioned, just pay for a guided hunt.  A guided hunt would probably be a better option and get you onto a field with birds and you won't have to bring all the decoys and blinds.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!
