Wehaha West A tag info?
« on: June 12, 2009, 09:24:01 PM »
My brother drew Wehaha West A tag.  Anyone get us started on areas to focus our scouting? Figuring it's his tag of a lifetime.  It's the only part of the state I haven't hunted, looking for some initial guidance.

What weapon is that season? The advice to get in shape is the key, not being in shape will ruin your hunt I watched it happen last year on a muzzie tag the country will eat you up in a hurry. You have an awesome tag, talk to the bios and maybe some guys who had the tag last year that are on here. Go scout and you will find elk and plenty of big bulls if you look. nwhunter

get in shape.

Good plan....run 30 miles from now until the season opens, and you may be able to get a raghorn or a little better.  :chuckle:

1.  get in shape
2.  get good optics (binos and scope)
3.  horses or mules would be suggested if you can't get them find 2 or 3 guys that can pack some weight because it could be and long hike out.
congrats great tag, great elk, and lots of land to cover.
"Shoot the spike".  It's much easier to pack out!

Oh definately Bone, it is by far the best road hunt in the state. Trying to hunt down a road in that unit is nearly impossible  :chuckle:

You will die if you are not in shape. Trust me I know.

Bowsandhose,
What an incredible bull you harvested, only hope my brother can come close to that caliber.  Great story post from the hunt.  Is that a Wenaha bull?

Yup, Both Jack  :chuckle:

All I can say is even a *censored* gets to have his day every once in awhile  :chuckle:

Thats an archery bull by the way. Its a tough tough hunt so get in shape, if you think you are in shape get in better shape. Marathon shape more like it, ask Travis. I was in great westside shape and it wasnt good enough let me tell ya. I jogged , hiked and rode my bike for 4 months straight, prettymuch every night.

There isnt bulls like this all over but there are a few. Its not a  easy hunt by no means.

Not sure I ever found the top of the Wenaha.  I was always in negative numbers when it came to elevation.

Bucklucky - thanks for the pic.  Incredible tine length, what did it gross?
I thought I was in pretty good shape for a hunt like this, sounds like I better hit the stairclimber even harder! Thanks for all the input. Already making some contacts.

Actually that was the infamous winterkill horns we found while we were calling in my bull. I told the story on here already but long story short we didn't know it was illegal to pick them up, we do now and hope everyone else nows the law too because the wardens over there take it seriously. nwhunter
