« on: June 13, 2009, 12:04:11 AM »
I was selected as an "alternate" for Tieton sheep.  Can someone provide insight as what this is? :chuckle:

I drew a ALT. moose tag about 5or 6 years ago. I called and they said there is a deadline for getting the $ into them for the tag and if someone fails to do so or for whatever other reason  you just hit the lottery....Good luck

So my chances are very slim that one of the 4 selected hunters is going to bail out. I'd never heard of it until I saw it in my draw results.

I believe the only way you have to apply your points is if you buy the tag ... like bobcat says if someone dies basically!!! Did I just a gree with bobcat again??? Let me tell you after agreeing twice yesterday this is getting scary now!  :yike:

I like the way Bone put it, that's what i had to tell my dad when he was wondering what an "alternate" meant for a goat permit two years ago.......slim chances of getting a permit, but hey things happen and someone may not be able to go so you never know, but yeah...so close!!!!!!!!!

make sure you print it out and frame it. Might be the closest you get to a sheep tag.

This was really getting to shape up for a fantastic week for me.  Started a full time job, great job at that after being laid-off for 4 months, both the wife and I were drawn for elk tags with 4 & 5 points.  And the possibility of sheep hunting.  Albeit a very small chance, I've got better odds then NOT SELECTED.  Ahh, I've got to look on the positive.  I've already contacted Pat2bear, best of luck to him.   :IBCOOL:

Alternate for for Sheep, Goat, Moose and Deer??
« Reply #22 on: June 23, 2009, 08:55:25 PM »
Ok, now I am confused.  Received my WDFW draw results in the mail today, says I am alternate for Sheep, Goat, Moose and Deer.  Never heard of alternate for deer before.  Wonder if their reporting system is screwed up.  Is there typically one alternate for all OIL tags and it's possible I could get a call for one of the big three?  It was too late today to contact Olympia, gonna call them first thing in the morning.

My online results only showed Tieton Sheep alternate.  I may be wrong but I've not heard of anyone else drawing alternate this year on this forum.

Means you are the first loser, but have a chance to be a winner.. :chuckle:  My son drew a Moose alternate with 2 points when he was 10.  Nothing came of it.  Everyone bought their tags....

What you got in the mail must be in error then.

It will be interesting to hear what the folks in Olympia have to say.

Bummer man. I know how you feel. I was selected as an alternate for moose a few years back. Kinda makes ya wonder if that will be as close as you'll ever get doesn't it?

Just to save the heartache, why don't they just not tell you that you are an alternate.  They should just keep that to themselves then if by chance you were able to get the tag, just notify you by mail.  Sorry man but my sheep draw said NOT SELECTED and i think i came out better than you did.  At least i will be able to sleep till next year. :chuckle:

I was selected as alternate for goat. Yesterday I got a message from the wdfw saying the cards they mailed out might have errors printed on them. I was supposed to disregard these cards as they would be sending me new ones with the correct info. This could be what happened to yours as well.

WDFW outsourced the green mailers, Mine is an obvious mistake as they do not have deer alternate. I faxed my card to Olympia, they are investigating.

Olympia called me back today, basically said that all 38 OIL alternates had some type of mistake on their green cards, they are mailing out new ones.  She verified that I am confirmed alternate Tieton sheep though.  In all fairness this was not a WDFW mistake, their outsourced partners are the cause.
