Vortex Mini Razor vs Vortex Razor Spotter
« on: March 03, 2024, 05:49:25 PM »
So I have been contemplating on moving from a standard size vortex razor spotter in 65mm over to the new vortex razor mini?

I’ve seen videos and reviews, and I love the weight savings and pack ability of it. Just looking to see if anyone has regrets from moving to the mini spotter?

Thanks!

I picked up the new compact and really like it so far but I didn’t get rid of my full size razor as I figure there’s a place for both. Compact for packing around and full size for truck or whenever weight isn’t an issue

True, I find myself using my full size spotter for everything, even scouting some of my goose fields to locating turkey roosts and everything in between.

When I go on my archery hunts I wouldn’t mind less weight and you don’t lose much magnification just some features.

I love the small spotter for carrying in the backpack. Eye relief sucks but other then that it goes everywhere with me.

My honest opinion is a for a backpack hunter a good 50ish mm spotter make most 65mm spotters no mans land.

My Nikon ED50 13-40 fits that, I hope the new little razor does too.

With that said, I have been eyeballing a Kowa 66mm that looks like it punches above it's weight class.

I owned the original 50mm Razor spotter and imo it was not worth the weight savings. A great pair of binos would be a better option. The glass on my 10x42 Geovid Pro binos make my 65mm Razor look like poop.

I like good 50mm spotters, and I agree.  The old 50mm razor was simply not worth it.

If I was in the market for a new 50ish mm spotter I would be looking very closely at this new one.

Good point! That was also another option I was thinking. I currently run 10x42 vipers and found myself wanting a little more power this past season.

I think if I went down in size, I'd go up in glass quality and look at the Swaro.

I went a different route recently than that. I love my EL10x42s, and last year I happened to spot a deer on a long ridgeline over a mile away. My Razor UHD gen 2 showed it was a 3x4, great! But I also saw other deer and looked with the scope, only to find more deer I hadn't seen with the 10x. And more, and more. How many deer was I missing out on with the 10x in the shadows that far away? And how many was I missing with the reduced FOV of the spotter? Had to do it, bought some SLC 15x56s. Can't wait to try them out this year.

Lots of brick and mortar stores carrying it. Go check it out. For me the edge to edge clarity was a non-starter. A little time behind the Swaro ATC/STC and time spent reading reviews from more experienced optics guys leaned me that direction.
