The feds better speed up the program or you just might see more sea lions floating their way back to astoria! Wouldn’t be the first time either…

Here is one that made it thru the pack of sea lions only to fall victim to a whole herring behind triangle. Tight lines everyone

Nice fish! Congrats!

I don’t fish the lower river so I didn’t realize there were this many around. I’m afraid the salmon numbers will soon look like the steelhead if something isn’t done.

They figure the sea lions kills around 40-50% of the springer run.

Just to clarify, we are talking about the "native and protected" California sea lions, correct?

Hush hush but some of those are going bye bye very soon! Hopefully! When they started removing some lions from the Willy there was almost an instant rebound in certain stocks of fish… coincidence?

What a joke and a "feel good" story for all of us where we line back up and buy licenses again for the 2024 season. It's no coincidence that they are doing this right around the start of a new license year. This government will blame everyone and everything except their incompetence.

They could charge for a drawing and then charge the successful applicants that drew $250 per tag and have no problem selling enough tags to kill every last one of the *censored*ers, while generating money to put back into fish and wildlife. Like I said, just another display of government incompetence at its finest.  :twocents:

When you fish as much as I do it’s not a choice. I get checked at least 6 times a year. There’s too many sea lions and they kill way too many fish but… there’s still tons that make it and they are delicious and they bite so good. Can’t wait for later in April for my season to start.
