Capitol Forest
« on: March 24, 2024, 07:23:39 PM »
Hello,

I've done lots of hunting in AZ and WV and I'm taking sights on the capitol forest for my first year since moving up here. I've been map scouting and thing I found an intersection I wanna check out, but I'm looking for y'alls expert advice.

The cross of Road B-4000 and Swan Creek looks decent for black tails, how's the trails there? Are they busy?

Things have been bad in CF. Full of Mexican brush pickers, motorized recreationist, and very heavily forested with entire ridges cleaned out. Best bet is the areas north of SR-8. Easy access from Turkey Rd. But the people are very hostile to hunters. Suggest parking at the car lot on the Summit Lake Rd. entrance and walk in. Always have seen deer in there.

The other good area is south-east of Bordeaux Rd - south of the prison. There are a few areas in Thurston County with lots of elk, coyote, deer, and bear sign.

Good Luck.

Capitol Peak is extremely crowded with Mt bikers, horse folks, mushroom and brush pickers, shooters, ATVs, motorcycle riders, hikers and tweakers..... but there is also a lot of space and some good bucks... just do your scouting and you can find decent hunting.
