Suppressors and Youth
« on: March 26, 2024, 06:12:59 AM »
Forgive my ignorance, I'm finally getting into the suppressor game and plan to buy two within the next couple of weeks, one for myself and one for my son's hunting rifle. I'll likely be using a trust with my wife's name and maybe a couple of others but I do not believe I can put my kids on there. With him being 10, I know I can install the suppressor on his rifle if I'm present but what does that mean? If I set him down on a rock and walk 100 yards away to push some brush for him, is that technically illegal? Can we be within a 1/4 mile, hunting the same canyon and still be legal? Within feet, within sight, within a mile? I can't seem to find a lot of information on how it would work for youth when recreating so I'm looking for opinions.

You need to be in control of the NFA item.

The more trustees you have the more difficult your paperwork completion is going to be. Everyone has to be fingerprinted and photographed among other things.

There isn’t a cop in the world that would harass you or your son for letting him hunt with your suppressor, especially if you are in the area.   I could see it potentially be an issue if he is 16 and takes it on a hunting trip while you’re at home 200 miles away.

If you and your son don’t make it an issue….it won’t be an issue.

I'm in control of my dog, whether she is on or off leash.
