Supressor Suggestions
« on: March 30, 2024, 06:46:32 PM »
Looking for suggestions on two different supressor scenarios...
First, precision back country hunting rifle. This will go on a 300 Win Mag, direct thread. Weight, length, and accuracy are most important. I am currently leaning towards the Scythe-ti but open to suggestions.
Second, primarily used on kid's/wife's hunting rifles (7mm-08 and 6.5 Credmoor) but doubles for a SHTF AR (10.5" 5.56 or 18" 5.56) with a QD mount. Weight is not as important but length and durability are. I had thought about the Omega 300 but I'm less convinced here.

Let's say I have $2,500 to spend total, give or take a little. What are your recommendations?

Can’t speak to the the specific suppressors but am confident in saying I would buy a 30 cal can for your second purpose.  That would give you versatility and allow it to be used on a 300 blackout AR pistol.   It will work on anything smaller.  300 blackout suppressed is a whole lot of fun.   It would also make a great caliber for youth and women to hunt with.

The Scythe-TI is relatively new so I haven't seen a ton of reviews, but what I've seen indicates it's a good option. The Thunderbeast Ultra 7 is pretty much the standard for your first condition. I went with the Dead Air Nomad TI. I'm very happy with it, the sound profile out of my 6.5 creed is fantastic. I don't think you can go wrong with either of those three.

Most of what I've read about the Omega 300 is that people wish they had gone with something else. Heard good things about the Dead Air Sandman for that option.

I have the Omega 300 and it's been awesome.  I shoot it on 7mm PRC, 300 blk, 6.5 creedmoor, kids 7mm-08, and .223/.556

I've heard really good things about the Bannish Backcountry.

in order to hit the numbers you are after I would consider the silencerco evo for you light weight set up or even the q trash panda as it comes with the mb and doesn’t add much weight. For the AR option i would consider the various 30 cal can from rugged. I have been happy with all 3.

Am I dreaming to get both for less than $2500? I know TBAC is out of the question but I figured it was still plenty to get two, from what I've been seeing.

Epic suppressor on my 6.5CM - makes my .300 win mag shoot more like a .308win.

I am looking forward to the Magnus Recoil Reducing suppressors becoming available. According to their testing, the ultra 7 was only actually reducing recoil by 8% on a .300 win. The recoil reducing suppressors are more in the neighborhood of 60% recoil reduction which to me would be worth the weight penalty.

I got two 30 cal cans for 2k years ago.  I didn’t have as many choices as you and wasn’t looking for light weight.   I think 2500 is doable …. But again I’m no expert on suppressors.  Both of mine are YHM 30 resonator gen 1 with the quick detatch.   They work great on all my rifles.  They make a lot of really nice cans now days so it just depends on what your expectations are.

On the 30 cal. I have a Griffin ultra light and it is quieter on all our rifles, sub or super then my sons Omega 300

Last year I bought 4 cans with stamps for 4200.00 I have 3 Griffins and 1 Rugged and they are all awesome.

A buddy has the Banish Backcountry 30 and I havent heard it but he is impressed

Every so often Griffin has some pretty good sales. I waited and took advantage of them. Griffin a makes a quality can and is extremely under rated IMHO

The mountains are calling and I must go

No, you're not dreaming. However, for that budget with taxes you're averaging just over $1,000 for each. For an Ultra 7 you're already ~$1,200 and if you really want to tame a 300WM, an Ultra 7 or something similar is bare minimum just to take the edge off.

So you may want to get a spread such as an Ultra 9 and a Aero Lahar 30L.
