Anyone going to Wyoming this fall?
« on: May 23, 2024, 08:43:22 PM »
Been collecting points and decided this is the year, put in for and got drawn for the general tag in the West.
Anyone been there recently that could offer a jumping off point?
There are 3 of us, in good shape, will be on foot and looking to get off the beaten path. We are as comfortable as we can be in griz country, have hunted in MT the last few years.  Going the second week of September for about 9-10 days.
Happy to give updates after we return, probably a tag we’ll only get every 5-6 years and certainly a lot will change in that time so not super worried about giving you info.
Anyway, not looking for honey holes, but a general direction. Looking to shoot bulls, not in it for trophy’s, just something legal. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately not, so wilderness areas are not an option.

How far on foot are you guys willing to go, and will you be hunting off your back or from camp?  Might be willing to swap some information on WY for MT.

My 4 points weren't enough to get the general in the west this year.  Sad face.  Next year it is

I was last there in 2020. My only general recommendation would be check the dates of the modern rifle deer opener, and possibly look for units where you won’t have a ton of rifle deer hunters coming into your area in the middle of your archery elk hunt.  Hope that helps!
