Yeah my first DIY just went very DIWrong. Watched lots of youtube videos.

Couldn't get the feathers to stay spread out, they kept pulling the pins out. Seems like a piece of solid foam insulation would be a better backer than cardboard. Didn't scrape all the meat off the base, got as much off as possible and borax/salted it. Maybe that was the problem.

On another note.
Did hear my backyard tom gobble this morning.
Didn't call at him or nothing.
But maybe they will be more active this weekend.

Back to a NE turkey report.

Arrived in camp Wednesday afternoon. Heard several birds in the evening. Early morning gobbles and shut up after fly down.  Covered a lot of ground but couldn’t strike a bird. They are here just not responding. The rain moved in yesterday afternoon.  Rain most of the night. Not a peep this morning.  Today will be covering more ground and make some calls here and there and see what happens.

Yesterday there had to be close to 150 birds in the field right near Immnel road off 395. There were also birds in Bogans flat just north of kettle falls. At 60+ mph it was hard to see how many had beards.

It's kind of a weird year. Still seeing flocks of 50+ bird
with 4-5 toms, smaller 5 or 6 with a  boss tom, groups of 20-30 all hens, and 2-3 toms running together.  Kinda like they can't make up their minds what they wanna do.  Generally pretty quite after fly down, even called to group of Jake's and only got a half hearted gobble before they wandered back into the brush. Not as much fun to mess with em as usual.

Yep I've seen that flock at immnel before,it's impressive to say the least.

I have a pin dropped on those birds 
iRem Tip of the week: drop pins (OnX, GoHunt, Huntwise etc) when you see birds while driving or hunting to reference later! Very helpful when birds are getting pressured.

There is no reason to drop a pin on them. If you had a partner you could easily "Wells Fargo" them from the highway.

Never hurts to drop a pin.
But this herd ,you can see it from a long ways off.
It's the biggest herd of turkeys I've ever seen.
It's the kinda herd that can ruin a field or garden in a hurry.

Seems like they started to get more active the last couple days. This boy in the driveway gobbled back at any kind of noise.

Just had a dozen Jake's and short beards wander down the driveway and across the road to the neighbors.

Never did fire up for us so pulled the plug and headed home last night. Maybe give it another go in a couple of weeks.

Went up east of colville with a buddy Saturday, Sat on some sign, walked, drove new areas, never heard a gobble.  I know birds were there, saw quite a few hens.  We were in pretty well used areas close to roads so I’d say they may have heavily pressured.  I’ll be getting a little more off the beaten path next weekend

Son and I got our Merriams the 17 th.  Went over to Dayton this weekend for Rios.  Was horrible on public areas.   Saw enough on private and they were mating.   Trying to find public areas to hunt Rios, it's not easy. They just are not thick like Merriams.
