58cal muzzy bullets
« on: April 18, 2024, 10:49:29 AM »
to all you muzzy guys out there. I own a Thompson center big bore in 58cal I am really low on conicals i usually shoot tc maxi-hunters or tc maxi-balls out of it, but I'm having a really hard time finding them. does anyone have some links to share to order some more or some that you are not using and want to part with. what do you guys shoot out of these big bore hand cannons. id like to elk hunt with it more but i don't shoot much cause I'm down to a half dozen. the puyallup muzzy shop has  some weird black widow brand that does not shoot good at all out of my gun so I wont use those. can anybody help me out or give me some pointers on what they use that works best out of there big cal. muzzy. also ive never shot round ball out of it either so im not sure what ball and patch to get for that gun. appreciate anyone's help.

I would try .0575 or .057 round ball.  I hunted elk for about 10 years, bagging 7 elk. when my eye was healthy.  I never lost a elk.  I used either a 50 or 54 cal. gun. My normal load for the 54 was .530 round ball, heavy patch ( pillow ticking ) with good coating grease. and 90 grains of 2ff.  The 50 cal was 90 grain 3fff and .495 round ball with pillow ticking patch. All the elk I shot were closer than 100 yards (80 to 5 yards avg probably 50-60 ).  I used either boughten swedged round ball or moulded my own.  I weighed all the moulded balls. I remelted any thing that wasn't close to the avg.

Track of wolf. Don't try .575 ball in your big boar. I own 3 and they won't come close

You might call Greens Gun Shop up on Whidbey.
