Federal B.O.R.Lock mz who likes them?
« on: May 02, 2024, 04:14:16 PM »
As the title says, I'm interested in hearing who has used the Federal B.O.R.Lock mz muzzleloader bullets. How do they shoot? perform on game? interested in any feedback. I'm pretty happy with the Knight Bloodlines I use, but these are interesting.
Thanks

I really like them.  Accurate and super easy to load.

I have only used them through 2 unsuccessful seasons, so cannot comment on their terminal performance.  I have a buddy that actually has killed a few deer with them and he loves them.

Father-in-law uses them and really likes them.  He is a member, so I am sure he will chime in if he sees this thread.

Love them, easy to load and shoot great out of my muzzy.

My father and I have killed 5 deer and a bear with them. Recovered most of the bullets and they opened up perfect, just like the marketing pictures.

I think the longest shot has been 115 yards, closest was 10 or 15 feet.

My brother has killed a few deer with them and they worked well for him.  I've had good accuracy out of my CVA Accura's but up until last week they have been "unubtainium".  I've now got a strong supply and will be fine tuning loads for this season.  I can't wait to get to use them on game.

I bought some after he told me about them. I got pretty good results through my CVA guns with them. Can’t remember if I shot anything with them as I switched back to Barnes in the 700 muzzy I am shooting now.

I picked some up the other day and tried them out at the range today. They loaded easy in my knight ultralite. I have been having a hard time finding a bullet that would load. These did the trick and grouped great. This was at 100 yards with a 1x scope.

Awesome bullets, hyper accurate out of my CVA accura v2. Two deer and an elk now and they perform like a copper bullet...similar death to getting shot with an arrow. Both whitetails went about 80 yards and the elk went around 100 yards and was disabled enough for me to shoot again. Good blood trails and crazy expansion recovered 2/4 bullets.

All I use. Love these  things. Easy to load, shot after shot. Very accurate in my rifle. The pictures are recovered rounds from Deer both were frontal shots . Other animals shot, rounds not recovered. Devastating performance.

If you wouldn't have said what they were I would have swore they were Barnes at first glance! Beautiful performance!

For guys who have killed animals with them, how far have your shots been. Wondering about the package stating “200 yard performance”.

I like the up close and personal. All my animals harvested were 100 yds or less.

Wow.
Tough to argue with that performance.

Here is a copper B.O.R. Lock on the left and a 300 grn Hornady sst on the right.  Both bullets came out of a bull elk my sons shot about 5 years ago.  Both bullets were shot by Knight Bighorns shooting 100 grains 777.  Both bullets went into the chest cavity just behind the front shoulder and they were both found on the opposite side against the hide. If I remember right the shots were about 60 yards.  Neither bullet looks like they  performed good but the bull didn't go very far so I guess they did their job.

I have a bullet out of a deer that looks exactly like these, the one I have from an elk the petals were bent all the way back towards the base of the copper.

Longest shot I have taken was 115 yards, closest was about 10-15 ft.  Recovered most of the bullets and they all look almost exactly like the pictures Rem14 posted, even the 10-15 foot shot (needed a finishing shot on my 2021 bear). Been meaning to push them out to 200 yards, maybe this year.

Thanks for posting that picture Lazy drifter, and while I am pretty surprised given my experience, it’s good to know nothing is fool proof.  How long of a shot was that?

If I remember right it was around 60 yards.  He killed a cow a few years ago with one of the 350 grain all lead B.O.R. Locks and was really happy with it. That is what he uses now.

Interesting, anything obvious in the tip that could have caused it not to expand? Like how home defense guys talk about clothing filling up a hollow point?

Like you said before, it did it's job and killed the elk, the other thing I try to keep in mind a non expanded 50 cal is still a pretty large diameter when you consider the size of a fully expanded center fire rifle calibers which we hunt with.
