If I could only have one rifle it would be my 338 Lapua improved.  Overkill for most situations but I can do anything I want with it within my limits. Everything else has its own limits. And recoil is much less than my unbraked 30-06 and spottong shots easier.  My 300wm and 338wm don’t get used much any more.

That's a dang good brake, 338 Lapua magnum has 60% more recoil than the 30-06.  Doesn't the improved have even more?  That would put the brake at 80-90% reduction?

The 1.2” SRS titanium 5 port brake does work great.  12# rifle with composite stock and great pad - vs 7# 30-06 unbraked with wood stock.

I went 6.5prc for my all around gun. a 140-150g class bullet in the boiler room of anything huntable in north america will do the trick.

I built a 300wm for bear and elk, but its never been shot. Ill probably sell some parts off of it and find a cheaper caliber to replace the barrel to turn it into a range toy. no reason to pack around a big magnum to me with modern bullet construction being what it is.

First rifle I bought was a Remington 700 30-06. I killed a ton of animals with it. But at times felt like I needed more. So I had a 300rum built off the action. Have absolutely loved the caliber and its capabilities. I have multiple top of the line custom built rifles in various calibers, but I seem to gravitate back to that one. Probably second favorite is my 7saum.

6.5 is the gateway drug to the smaller stuff. You'll ne necking that prc down to a 6mm before you know it :chuckle:

I went prc, cause I'm tearing the barrel off my Creedmoor, trying to decide if I want to go 25 creed or 6 creed for that one  :chuckle:

I always default to the original.  The 180-grain bullet in a 30-06 rifle has probably killed at least two of every game animal on this planet.
I usually delete my posts after two days.

Anything that will stabilize a 108-115 grain 6mm. Fast twist .243, .243AI, 6 creed to name a few.

Lots of stuff that works well. I have an old bolt action Ruger 7 mag that loves anything that says Federal Premium. It has worked very well on elk since the 1970’s topped with an old Leopold 3x9.Just no having to adjust aim points. Also have a Knight Disc Extreme that is very impressive with accuracy and killing power with 3-50 grain pellets. What trips my trigger though, Nlnja warfare in SW.Wa. Shoot a Rosie bull at 15 to 20 feet wiih a rifled barreled shotgun. I have 2 Savage slug guns that are the *censored* for restricted units. One has a fixed box the newer one has a clip. Three shots and no worry about getting wet. The 3x9 during modern is another bonus. My slug of choice was discontinued. A 375 grain hollow point Cor-Loct Ultra was devastating at those ranges. Spelling may be wrong there but the kids in our group were killing elk at 200 plus with Fibre optic sights. I prefer the up close and personal, I like to smell them before I shoot them. Best of the WEST is pathetic
