Flail mower
« on: June 03, 2024, 09:28:33 AM »
I had a new flail mower delivered Friday. Man I love this thing. I need to mow significantly slower than with the rotary cutter, but the finished product is so much better. It really cuts up/ grinds the grass and leaves it evenly spread. I walked the field first to make sure no babies were harmed!

Now, to the guy that was supposed to be over at 2:00 Saturday to buy my brush hog and no-showed... :bash:

Used a TMG that came with my property. Did nice work but always scared me spinning around back there. Replaced it with 4legged meat mowers. Saves on gas but frustration levels are costly.

Was it a flail mower? I fell likes it's significantly safer than a rotary cutter (brush hog).

I have been thinking of doing the same thing. What size did you get? Brand? From where? I have been on the debate between flail mower and finish mower...I already have a brush hog which I love but looking for a tighter, nicer final product.
Have fun,
Mike

I've used the flails, they work well.  Changing blades takes some time.

Betstco FH-EFG125

$2300 from Amazon of all places. Shipped from Betstco in Oregon and was in Sequim in 2 days. Seems like a pretty solid unit.

I have bought one from betstco for a little tractor I had. They work great. Especially for sticks and woody blackberry vines. Not so great for tall grass or large fields. They're commonly used for ditch maintenance on booms.

In my incredibly short experience, the cut quality/ mulching with long grass is great, but it is VERY slow going. It will probably take a few hours to do my 2-ish acre field. That's what AirPods and a cup holder are for!  :chuckle:
