Guess I'll just keep using my boring old 30/06 with 180gr Partitions.
Works for everything I hunt.

Right🤣

Any legal center fire caliber for deer will do it. 😉

it’s my 7mm rem mag with 154gr superformance bullets sent from my Montana Rifle Co ASR. They can do some significant meat damage if you punch them through the shoulders especially at closer distances. But as long as we put them in the right place, which is easy to shoot overlapping holes with my gun, they have worked great out to 550 yards on a bear and regular 400+ yard Montana mule deer shot that are almost always DRT. I also have 300 WSM that makes it out when I’m looking for something lighter. 165 grain bonded bullets for that one works on anything in Washington. Well Ive shot deer, elk, bears, and a moose with it

Whatever rifle is in my hands at the time.
Probably the same rifle I'll miss the shot with.
Same story for me, can't find a mule deer or I find him and buck fever it.

6.5 PRC/147 ELD-M.
I’ve killed 8 deer with this combination, I used to just use the 28 nosler for everything. The 6.5 prc is prefect for deer at mid ranges

I’ve used a few calibers from 270, 7mm Rem Mag, 308, 30-06, 300 Win Mag and 338 Win Mag.  Not a lick of difference.  It was the characteristics of the rifle that meant more than the cartridge.  I don’t care for ultralight rifles when shooting far, so my Kimber Montana 308 wasn’t my favorite.  But, I also don’t want a big heavy dedicated LR rig because that’s not my game.

The other rifles were all 24-26” barreled sporters with fixed 6x, 2.5-8x, 3-9x,3.5-10x, and 4.5-14x scopes.  I don’t use scopes above 10x for big game hunting anymore.  Mostly for eye relief issues shooting up or downhill.

My favorite caliber and rifle for deer and antelope hunting has been my .257 Wtby, it has even been used on bear, moose, and elk numerous times, but I now have a 6.5x300 that may take it's place, not sure yet.

Recently, .243win is what I've been carrying. 7mm-08, .270win and 30-06 have all been good to me. I couldn't pick a favorite, I don't like recoil, so the 7mm-08 may be the best for me. It's amazing how devastating the .243 is on mule deer. Its amazing how devastating any of the 4 listed is on mule deer.
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!
