Nooksack Quality Modern
« on: June 18, 2024, 04:10:54 AM »
First things first I have been hunting for 8 years (I had 8 points) and have taken a few deer and a bear, I have been around some elk and helped to pack them out. I am excited to have the chance to hunt this unit, that said I have zero expectations other than i am really looking forward to a chance at a decent bull by no means do i expect to shoot a 350 bull. I am in fairly good shape and train often with a weighted pack for the purpose of getting off the road and away from others I am not looking for a free pass. I have a general idea of the area and am working on some access permits (fingers crossed). I am willing to hike and have a good mountain bike (not E-bike) that I often use to access ground.
I have a few questions and would take any other advice that people are willing to share.

#1 I have heard that there is a possibility that a timber company may provide a key through WDFW. If so can someone confirm this, I emailed them last week and have yet to receive a response.

#2 If i scout over the next 3 months will the bulls be in similar areas? i know people say that elk are not in the same areas in October as they are in September, i am curious if this hold true here I feel like the timber, terrain, and possible pressure may change that.

#3 SPOTTER? up until now I have been running binos on a tripod and i mainly hunt the west side, I have been considering picking up a spoter for use at the range and figured that this would be a good excuse to pick one up. Will i be able to find a spot that I can post up and glass, or are most of the spots going to be small and timbered?

Thanks for anything and wish me luck!

The WDFW should have gate key info for you.   If it was me I’d go high and deep and ( shhh  - spike out overnight)  it tough hunting.   You won’t see much.  The season for natives is 8 mo long and some hunt at night so don’t expect to see any near roads.   If you see em in a field knock on doors after checking OnX to see owner.

Timber company will give you a key unless it's to dry they Don want fires and a spotting scope would help alot but get off the logging roads and find the nastiest stuff possible that's where the elk will be. If you want a couple pointers on where to go send me a message I grew up in that unit.
