Which daiwa electric reel?
« on: September 11, 2024, 11:08:22 AM »
so many options out there. for coastal fishing . in the Daiwa brand there are older style Tanacom 750-'s which are "smaller" but drag seems a bit underrated, 800's with motor in spool latest design. the higher end Seaborgs have higher drag rating and appear to be built with better "stuff".

Curious what you guys are running and issues you have seen with what products you have.... off season research here!

I've run 750s for probably 15 years and no issues
I have them gone through every 5-6 for basic maintenance and upgrades.

A buddy has a Tanacom 750 and a Tanacom 1000.  Both have performed flawlessly for everything we have done.

Another buddy bought a Piscifun this year.  They are a smaller lightweight reel but operate on a rechargeable battery that attaches to the pole.  The Piscifun performed extremely well this year fishing in anywhere from 150' to 600'  The battery lasted pretty much all day reeling in multiple ling cod and halibut.  The first day we used it we probably released 7-8 20-25# halibut and 20+ ling cod that were anywhere from 5-20#.  He took it when we went to Alaska and unfortunately we never ended up catching anything big on it to see how it would do for larger fish, all of the 60#+ halibut we caught were either on the Tanacom or hand reels (ugh  :chuckle: ).  The batteries also charged up pretty quick when they were depleted, but will also accept the Tanacom wire to hook it up if there are ports on the boat.  They weigh a ton less than the Tanacoms but also hold less line since they are smaller.  I am pretty sure I am going to purchase one before next season....

I’ve ran 750’s for years and they have been great. The 800 are just bigger than I would need/like.
