Duck hunting tidal waters
« on: July 06, 2024, 07:07:04 PM »
Hello my fellow duckers
I'm going to start hunting more in tidal waters this year and was wondering how do you make sure you're decoys are anchored firmly to the ground while the tide is coming in? Do you use longer line so it can compensate for the fluctuating tide or something different?
Thank you,  my dudes.

Longer line and or more weight. I use an 8oz Lx weight with a rubber snubbed made out of a truck tire tube. Ease of storage and has pretty good holding power 6 -10" and 1 " wide. . For the tidal areas I hunt in the weeds my line is o ly 5 ft long same weight. Even if its sporty I don't loose them because the L hangs up on something.

By the way this is a great time of year to scout out hunting areas. Ditches are fully exposed and you can do a lot of e plowing un muck boots to find good spots and places to maneuver your boat.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

No need for anything special.
If you have a bunch of current, birds don't really wanna be in that spot anyway. It'll take time to learn how birds work in tidal reaches but once you get em figrd out you'll be doing well.

I use 12' lines with lead strap weights. The weight can be folded into a J shape to grab onto whatever on the bottom, then unfolds if you give it a good tug.
What country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon & pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants.
