Retiring my Austin&Halleck
« on: June 16, 2009, 06:56:03 AM »
Well,I've hunted with it for about 9 yrs now, when they went out of business I bought another but have never fired it.Think I'll keep both in my safe, afraid if something breaks I'll not be able to get any parts in fact WON't be able to get replacement parts. :'( :dunno:

So think I'll put the fancy stocks back on them and save 'em might be worth something someday again.

I'mm going to buy a big horn talked to Knight and parts will always be available but just in case I',m also buying a couple breech plugs and a spare bolt for it now I get to start all over finding a good load for it.I'm thinking 110 gr pyrodex and 300 gr SST, in my Austin I was shooting 100 grs pyrodex and 348 power belt worked great for Elk but was a little big for deer sure put'em down tho..

I would keep an eye out for sales on those knight rifles. I bet they have some great prices this weekend on them around you. ;)

I have seen several go Very cheap on gunbroker.com. about 50% of what they normally sell for.

Is the taste of the bait worth the sting of the hook twice?

Think I'll just keep hunting mine. Not really that much to break on them in my opinion. My son has one he doesn't use that could be a parts donor if something did break. He likes to tinker with things so he bought another one in satin nickel and had the barrel cut down and recrowned. Very handy rifle and he prefers it.

Never had the wood stock on mine, still in the closet in the packing. Maybe I'll put it on for this season.

Here's a picture of mine from last year.
