My BIL changes his every 100 hrs or every spring, whichever comes first as a matter of maintenance. They are a know failure.
Blow the pee stream from the outside in and see if any pieces come out. If so, cool, if not, not a big deal. Blow everything you can see and get to, install new impeller and button up. Fire up and watch pee stream. It should be super strong. I look at mine every time I run the boat out of habit. Tell your buddy to get into the habit.
How can you say that impeller looks pretty good. Joking right.

You can probably re-install it and get another 20 years out it. Probably, but I wouldn’t risk it.PS - You should check the T-stat if you haven't already.
