Montana alternate list is out
« on: July 02, 2024, 03:50:23 PM »
Montana alternate list is out I’m in the top 20, lowest number ever For my group. And of course, the year I’m going to Alaska and have an Idaho late whitetail hunt planned. I really don’t have time . But I always make time for hunting, so I sure hope another one of the guys gets a low number too

How’s 479 and 670? First time doing the alternate list so not sure how many get returned on average.

It’s always different. I think one year it made it almost all the way up to 1800 and another year. I don’t think it even made it over 300. Last year I know a guy that got one that I believe was around 1100. I had one preference point so I knew I would not draw so I’m glad I got a low number. Does anybody know if I lose my preference point now (assuming 20 people return tags)or do I already have that banked for next year since I was unsuccessful in the original draw?

Found this on Rokslide.

2022 list ended @ #307
2021 @ #406
2020 @ #527

If you're north of 200 sounds like your odds of getting a call before November are pretty low.

There are three separate alternate lists. One for deer, one for deer and elk, and one for just elk.  Each list has different totals and different odds. Being 300 on the deer/elk combo is way better than 300 on the deer.

Is 1800 on the combo list good?

Nope but there is 907 people behind you in line so it’s not the worse number.
