Easy reader for checking trail cams in the field
« on: September 05, 2024, 08:21:11 PM »
My lil newbie contribution to the forums...might save you a few bucks.

You don't need a special SDCard reader for your phone to check your cams in the field.

You just need the right cable!

One of my kids hooked me up so that all I have to do is walk up to my cameras, plug one end of the cable into my phone (USB-C) and the other into my camera (Micro-USB) and I can access the SDCard and view and manage all the files on the camera using the phones File Manager app.

I don't even have to shut the camera off or pull the card, just plug in and go! Super easy! No special card reader attachment...just a $5 cable.

I'm using a hand-me-down phone with no service and cheap Tasco and Bushnell cameras, nothing fancy in the hardware other than having micro-usb ports which I think is pretty standard on most cameras.

If you don't have a file manager app on your phone already, install one. Also, at first my phone wouldn't open the *.AVI video files with it's default video player so I did have to install a video player app compatible with that file format but other than that it was super easy to get up and running.

I hope someone finds this useful!
