329 Quilomene Quality Buck
« on: July 10, 2024, 09:47:46 AM »
I drew a GMU 329 Quilomene Quality Buck tag this year. Any pointers or suggestions about the area that anyone could share would be greatly appreciated. I will be bringing a 30 foot travel trailer along for a base camp. I do have some mobility disabilities that can be rather restrictive. But my mind still says go. Many times later regretting my decisions.
I have a choice to make between rifles to hunt with, .325 WSM, 7mm mag. , or .308 cal. I have mainly been an archery hunter in the past. So not too sure which cal. suits this area the best. The is .325 WSM is my fanorite as it took down a Moose a few years back, dropping it in its tracks. It may be too much and very hard to find shells for, although I have a few. But it is light and doesn't kick like a mule. Thank you all for your time, I am excited for this hunt and can't wait to read responses.

Congrats on the tag. Looks like you've already been searching up past threads and tagholders so you're on the right track there. Not a bad tag to have for somebody with mobility issues, there's a lot of driving and glassing close to the pickup (atv or sxs would be even better) that can be done on this hunt. As far as gun choice, I'd go with whatever you're most comfortable making some longer shots with. Especially if you're mobility impaired, the ability to shoot at moderately extended ranges will be an asset. Lots of open country. If you hang around the forum and engage with some folks you just might find a few very helpful people. Good luck, hope to see some pics of a big ol' buck come fall!

If you haven’t spent much time up there just FYI the roads are rough. Look at the dates the wind farm will allow access I can’t remember what they are.

I had the archery tag in the Quilomene last year... Hunted for 12 days straight and talked to many rifle hunters leading up to the hunt...

Roads are rough, lots of indians, country is huge, weather can be problematic, and lastly the deer quality is terrible.

I found one buck that was worth the point burn in the entire time spent on the late archery hunt. Albeit, he was pretty big. But he was the biggest by a long shot. Most of the deer we saw were dinks and a couple 24" 3 points.

My suggestion would be to get away from the roads if at all possible. The canyons are steep, nasty and long. But I know there has to be big bucks around. Maybe you will get some early weather/snow to help you out. Feel free to PM if you have any questions.

Best of luck.
