True, kinda like punching your elk/deer tag opening morning.  I had to get to work today, so all good.

Crowds weren't too bad.  Although I was packed up and leaving before a lot had arrived.  Passed the mooching charters just heading out while I was on my way back to the ramp.

Had time for a quick trip with my daughter before heading to the airport on Thursday.  Had a hard stop at 6:30a.  But tide, bait and fish cooperated for the time we had.

Last fish was the coho on the left, which appeared to be an early ocean fish.  Very different than the resident coho we've been catching for the last seven weeks (see example on the right)...super bright, big scales, two pounds bigger, cut orange (not red like the residents).

For some reason I was under the impression area 10 was opening up again on Thursday the 1st like area 11.  Now I cant find anything on the wdfw website that supports that.  Is 10 open Thursday or am I just wishful thinking?

Looks like they just opened for one more day on 8/4, Sunday. At this catch rate, maybe will get another day or two after that.

Got back from traveling just in time for the emergency king opener.  Here are my fish from today.  Lots of fish around, made for a quick morning.  Nice that we got these last couple days, MA10 really gets good when you get into August.

Nice.

I'm still waiting for a reopening in MA-9.  I guess I shouldn't hold my breath.

9 is at 97 percent encounter total. It won't reopen.

Love that math. Suppose I only pay the state 97% of what I owe them.

if it hits 100% of encounter quota they will shut down/shorten coho.
they leave encounters on the table for that reason.

but, hit A10 yesterday afterwork..2 hours and 2 nice fish (15+)
id personally take a late july/august season over the early mid july season...i've personally caught more big fish in august in the past than july.

Yes, kinda wish they'd just open MA10 in August when the migratory fish are thick.  In July, we're eating up a bunch of the quota with blackmouth.  But understand that staggering it with an earlier MA9 opener would mean the hordes would descend and we'd eat through the quota faster.  I've never seen so many boats in MA10 for chinook as there were on Sunday.

Well, the rain's good for something...here's a limit of ocean coho from this morning.  Fish on the left went 10.2 lbs. on the scale.

There are a few fish around.   :chuckle:

Worked on my solo net dance moves this morning.

Not MA-10, but not too far away.

Nice!  That fish on the left is chunky!  Cool to see they arrived early up there too.

Anyone fishing the Edmonds derby this Saturday? Gonna launch elsewhere and wondering where to temp park the boat for weigh-in if we have a good fish.

It's going to be slammed with the weather and amount of fish around.  I believe you can also weigh in Everett, at least you used to be able to.  Many more options up there if you're fishing up north.  Otherwise, I would just plan to dump a passenger on any dock I could nose into.
