Tajikistan ibex hunt
« on: February 16, 2024, 11:25:36 PM »
December of 2023 is a huge accomplishment being able to hunt every continent around the world which I set a goal years ago when I started Shooting Stix Safaris I missed a giant ibex at 250 yards with a 7 mm I was shooting at a steep angle so I aimed high and once I missed the ibex dispersed and so I figured that because the ibex were rutting that one of the Billies would follow the females so I put the crosshairs on the females and like clockwork the Billie followed and laid the smack down at 300 yards

Congratulations on a nice looking ibex. Is that one considered a Pamir or over the mid-Asian line?

Awesome buck! We'll done! One of my dream hunts is Asia. I want a huge Altai Argali sheep. One that's 300lbs and has 17 inch bases.  :chuckle:

It’s not a pamir ibex or mid Asian ibex i was told it’s a different ibex it’s the same name as the Markhor in that region we were on the Afghanistan border on the southern part Pamir ibex is over in the mountains with the Marco Polo sheep

Congrats!!  I am planning on doing this hunt as well but am struggling to decide between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Seems like Kyrgyzstan has slightly more forgiving terrain. How did you decide?

This ibex is a different hunt than a Pamir or mid Asian ibex I think it’s harder to get close for those species I shot mine at 300 meters compared to the others you might have to shoot 600+ if you are a serious international hunter you will have to hunt both anyway

It’s actually a Bakharan ibex the Pamir are in the area with the Marco Polo Sheep in Pamir mountains & mid Asian is in Kyrgyzstan and other countries

GSCO has been splitting the mid-asian ibex into sub species in the last few years. Now there are the mid-asian from Kyrg & Kazastan, the Pamir from Tajikistan (usually one killed in the MP area) and the Bukharan. All count on the capra list as separate animals now. These 2 with the "addition" of the Sayan ibex (Altai Mts of Russia) and the Coastal ibex of Turkey gives a hunter several "new" ibex to go hunt.
I'll be traveling to Tajikistan with a couple hunters this winter chasing after those 2 new varieties along with MP. I might have to bring one or 2 home my self :chuckle:
