TC’s population!
« on: August 03, 2024, 10:11:26 AM »
Eye opening how much the Tri-Cities population has grown!  Growing up there the population was estimated to be around 100k and today is well over 300k while most doubled in just the last 20 short years. Just jaw dropping and no wonder a lot of the mcnary refuge fields that grew crops just for waterfowl had to be ripped out for that growth.  Definitely ain’t creating more marsh and birds even with the population explosion over there.  Just wow, public waterfowl hunting couldn’t even handle the population back then with more public opportunities to boot.

yes, its mind blowing.

Brainstorming with Sandberm

-Its like all of a sudden they decided this year to do road construction everywhere. Traffic sux.
-No more riding dirtbikes at the sand dunes off road 100. Horn Rapids used to be free, not any more.
-Sagebrush is getting rare.
-Homeless camps out on the Yakima delta .
-Brush has taken over the shorelines of the snake and columbia rivers.
-No pheasants.
-No steelhead.
-Whats with all the pop up tents at the boat races taking up valuable viewing space?
-Never seen so many ticks in my life
-Fentynol zombies in down town Pasco
-Why did the corp of engineers stop taking care of the HMU's along the Snake?
-Milfoil getting worse
-Blue green algae blooms are now the norm
-LOT less deer in the basin then 10 years ago.
-Franklin county government is an embarrassment

It’s happening state wide. There is no upside to population growth. It always brings the stuff most folks want to get away from.

Traffic, taxes, crowding, and crime.

Never thought about homeless camps on the banks of rivers and lakes that could be causing a lot more stress for migratory birds.  Brings more clarity why public duck hunting might have deteriorated at the flip of a switch due to these sad issues.

Nevertheless the Tri-Cities bubble burst happened long ago.

Moses Lake, Ephrata, Othello, Royal City too. Its nuts. We were one of a few homes surrounded by Ag fields 25 years ago. Now, homes all over the place, traffic, and crime.

 :yeah:

What really drove it home for me was simply driving through the basin at night. Lights everywhere, when they used to be few and far between.

I believe that they call it progress. Folks want to leave someplace, but then they bring the views with them they wanted to get away from.

I would agree 100% for progress but activities such as waterfowl hunting is breaking especially for the general public under the current pressure of this progress.  Nothing we can do about growth.
