HELLO,

I am sure someone here has experience with this, I guess the question anyone willing to share?

Ive got the big game combo this year and would like to experience block management program.

any success? hunter numbers? any places to consider? any thoughts or pm's highly appreciated

There’s plenty around you need to order the block management guide you’re probably too late for anything that requires reservations, but there’s plenty of Block management around and as long as you follow the rules it’s pretty decent.
 You wanna have some fun go hunt around the prison in deer Lodge
It’s mostly a local show though, but there’s a ton of elk back in there.
Don’t get caught up in chasing them around or you’ll end up on a Wardens show.
Seriously there’s a lot of land to hunt. Get over there and get scouting now.
We like Eastern Montana for deer
Be careful of the grizzlies, depending on where your at

hi been gone awhile. call fish and game and they will send all soughts of info, including block management for state. best. Jackson

Our group went last November for deer. While we did hunt some state land we spent the most time by far on block management property. Met some of the landowners who were AWESOME. We were all successful and just had a fantastic trip. Planned ahead and as others said, get the maps showing the properties along with all of the information on each parcel.

Check out the Hutterite colonies, they are all across the northern part of Montana, I believe most of the colonies are in Block Management! The couple I hunted are walk in only but if you talk with some of the young men they will help retrieve your game with the exchange of a case of beer

I will be in the Anaconda area hunting elk and deer mid September. I already received my block management pamphlet. One more month. I was also thinking of archery around that prison land. You need to call them and ask it looks like

Using the Onx and the maps you get at the gates is awesome.

BMAs can be awesome. Talked with a few landowners who have said they are always on the verge of pulling their land from the program because people damage fences, unintentionally scare cattle who then break fences or let cattle out so thank the landowner and take care of their property while you're out.

You can order the block management pamphlet with all the maps on the fish and game site. Lots of access opportunities all across Montana. It is a pretty cool system they have coordinating with landowners for access. 99% or better of land owners I’ve interacted with in the almost 20 years I’ve hunted there have been great. There have been a couple though that definitely had a strong dislike for out of state hunters. Those owners sighted the reasons stated above about people cutting fences or trespassing. A lot of that country is cattle country and that’s how those folks make their living. Treat their land with care and use common sense and you will be just fine. We’ve made some good friends along the way too. One last thing to note, Montana doesn’t require landowners to post their land and it’s 100% up to you to know where you are to ensure you aren’t trespassing.
