Hunting the Snake in Washington

Hello All,

I am a student at Washington State University in Pullman. I have brought my duck boat with me to fish the snake in the summer and fall, hunt deer, and potentially waterfowl hunt. Though, very few people I have talked to have much good to say about hunting the Washington portion of the snake for waterfowl. Is this in part because of the extremely deep canyon in this portion of the river? Is there any actual truth to this?

I have a 13ft double hull Livingston with a 25 hp outboard, so maneuvering around the river isn't much of a problem.

Not looking for spots by any means but any information or tips are very appreciated! Thanks!

So much opportunity around Pullman to get outside and chase critters.  Spent a ton of time down on the river above lower granite and below lower granite chasing birds, coyotes and deer.  The river doesn't hold a ton of waterfowl as I suspect because it is so deep above the dam and kind of swift below the dam.  Very hard to set out a decoy set. and not a lot of cover along the riverbanks.  But, the ponds along the railroad tracks holds birds and the fall migration will allow you lots of pass shooting opportunity.  Get OnX and will show lots of access points. Don't forget that Potholes is not far from Pullman.

can confirm the ponds.  There are some really good spots along the river.  Plus upland opportunities. 

Deer- tons of deer.  Are you willing to work to get permission?  There are going to be a lot of good deer on private in eastern Washington.  Do you have time to scout?  PM me and I can give you some spots to scout for deer opportunities in eastern Washington (not too many close to the river).  Do not let people convince you the hunting is bad in Washington!  Although the public opportunities will be busy during the short deer seasons in many places.   Eastern W has many opportunities, but you will have to work at it to be successful.

South side at Central Ferry looks good where Deadman comes in. Huntable? not sure. I've done well below Lyon's Ferry killing mallards early before chasing pheasant on gubmnt land

Looks like USACE land. If you can pool resources, make the weekend trip to the Columbia and blast away. Cold nights in the back of a pickup but memories last.

I would just hit the books before tackling a small boat on that part of the snake.  Then someday we will be scratching on your door for permission.  My former hunting partner even gave a land owner a gift card.
